CAROL SOUTHARD

has a Master’s degree in Nursing Administration and despite always wanting to be a stage actress, she instead became a nurse and for the past 28 years has been a pioneer in the field of tobacco cessation. Carol is on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is a Tobacco Cessation Consultant for Chicago area hospitals. She has published articles, chapters for text books, and does get “on stage” by presenting workshops and seminars for health professionals as well as for community groups on tobacco cessation throughout the nation.  Carol won the 2012 American Lung Association and Koop Foundation Unsung Heroes in Tobacco Control award – the first nurse and the first woman to have ever received this award.  Carol is passionate about the theater and has been an avid aficionado virtually her entire life.
