Originally hailing from Indiana, Courtney possesses bachelors' degrees in both psychology and English, and minors in literature and sociology. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts in poetry. She continues to publish her essays, poems, and illustrations in various journals throughout the country. Courtney currently works in Chicago teaching undergraduates in subjects of English, art history, and poetry.

She continues to maintain an interest in both literature and psychology, specifically cognitive rhetoric, developmental psychology, and post-modern philosophy. She's hopeful to eventually return to school to become a licensed therapist.

Beyond literary studies, Courtney did not become interested in theater until 2015 when she saw Teller's Tempest at CST. After that, her and her husband discovered Chicago's immense black box theater scene and have been massive devotees ever since and continue to see multiple plays per week.
